Yes, teaching martial arts, and yelling fire will help in their defense from predators, but may not be all that they need to fight off the predator. Pepper spray, possibly a stun gun or at the very least, a personal alarm will increase their chances of walking away from an attack. I have two daughters. These days these items are easy to purchase online and don't cost that much.
