I’m not sure if any of you have following the Smallville series but Laura Vandervoort is playing Supergirl! I remember the old comics when I was growing up when Supergirl would make an appreance. I did not find a lot of information on the web about Laura’s karate training. It is common knowledge that she is a 2nd degree black belt in karate. In my posting about Elvis I mentioned that the 1st degree black belt is the hardest degree to get as it is signifies an expert level. I found a youtube video of Laura sparring in a Tae Kwon Do match for the, “Are You Afraid Of The Dark” series.

I think this Smallville show has a hit on its hand because it has already run six seasons and has found a niche market. Season seven is promising with Laura Vandervoort as Kara (Superboy’s cousin from Kripton that was suspended for 18 years). Here is a poster of Smallville.

I really enjoy it when I know that an actress really knows her stuff when it comes to karate. Lots of actors and actresses train for the part but in this case Laura Vandervoort is the real deal.  By the way Laura is also a smart cookie - she is studying Psychology at college. I urge you to give Smallville a try this season.
