I think it’s really important for girls to learn self defence, but it is important to remember that just because you can stand up for yourself doesn’t mean that you don’t have to take other precautions, such as not walking in lonely places late at night etc.

I have two daughters. Yes, teaching martial arts, and yelling fire will help in their defense from predators, but may not be all that they need to fight off the predator. Pepper spray, possibly a stun gun or at the very least, a personal alarm will increase their chances of walking away from an attack.

I think that in addition to martial arts and just yelling fire that there are other self defense methods such as pepper spray, stun guns, and personal alarms. These days these items are easy to purchase online and don't cost that much. Sometimes an aggressor may be stronger, faster, etc so in order to defend yourself sometimes you just have to go the extra mile. .-= Tara´s last blog ..1 /2 oz Pepper Spray Pen =-.
