For those of you who watch the WEC on Versus TV, the fight of the year is happening Sunday, June 6th! Mike Brown is defending his title against Urijah Faber. Faber lost the title last year in a surprise upset.

The WEC is still airing free on Versus TV and thankfully there are some good competitors in this league. Miguel Torres is another exciting champion in the WEC. My guess is eventually the WEC will go to PPV like the UFC but I really hope not too soon. In  this short post I’ll briefly talk about my expectations in this fight. Here is a recent promo video I found.

I don’t know a lot about Brown as the few fights I’ve seen were short. He can box and has a ground game. I’ve started watching a few videos of his fights and he is a well rounded fighter. The thing I like about Brown is he seems to be consistent. If a fighter makes it to the top of his weight class and just goes out there and fights his game plan (the one he has been training for in the gym) - that is a hard combination to beat. Here is a quick training video about Mike Brown.

Now I am more familiar with Urijah Faber as I have been following his career for a couple of years. I like Faber’s work ethic in the gym as he trains hard. I saw that lunging elbow in his last fight with Brown and Faber defeated himself! Here is a MMA Junkie Youtube video interviewing Faber about the upcoming rematch.

Now this is not taking anything away from Brown but when a fighter makes a mistake and loses a fight - no one really knows how the two fighters stack up against each other. I would like to see Faber fight consistently but not too defensively. Really the last fight was a fluke I believe so I am looking forward to a lot of action in this rematch!

Now for Jens Pulver’s prediction, drum roll please… without further ado:

I will predict Faber to win this rematch, not because I don’t like Brown – I do like Brown but I have been watching Faber for a while now. He (Faber) is a little unorthodox but has great skills and and has pulled off some great wins. True he will have to be careful about bridging the gap (transitioning from outside to the inside) but so long as he does not give the fight away – he has a great opportunity to win the belt back.

WEC 41 looks to have a fun fight card. For more information please check out the WEC TV website.
