The Karate Hottie; Michelle Waterson!
30 Jul 2009
Back by popular demand (search engine traffic - key word searches) I wanted to catch up with what Michelle Waterson has been up to lately. Many of you have heard of the karate hottie from MMA competitions and her good showings last year. She is coming off of one loss but still an exciting fighter.
Michelle has been blogging-vlogging over at My Fantasy MMA here. She has an interesting point of view about fighting, other fighters and she is trying to find her niche as a blogger-vlogger (for those you like me that did not know what a vlog was – it is a video blog). In this post I will try and catch up some sine I last posted on Michelle. Here is her latest video she posted this morning.
Gina “Crush” or “Conviction” Carano vs Chris “Cyborg” Santos!
16 Jun 2009
Well one of the main fights of the Summer is fast approaching on August 15! Crush vs. Cyborg! Some of you might correct me and say Gina’s handle is now Conviction and you would be right but I like the sound of Crush.
Both women have good records in MMA with 7 wins and Cyborg has one loss. Both women are billed as ready to fight and both seem ready for 5 rounds. Showtime is now hosting the Strikeforce fights and doing a good job. I’ll highlight both fighters in this post and talk a bit about what it means to women’s MMA.
Brown vs Faber 2 – WEC 41!
5 Jun 2009
For those of you who watch the WEC on Versus TV, the fight of the year is happening Sunday, June 6th! Mike Brown is defending his title against Urijah Faber. Faber lost the title last year in a surprise upset.
The WEC is still airing free on Versus TV and thankfully there are some good competitors in this league. Miguel Torres is another exciting champion in the WEC. My guess is eventually the WEC will go to PPV like the UFC but I really hope not too soon. In this short post I’ll briefly talk about my expectations in this fight. Here is a recent promo video I found.
Cyborg over Akano – Showtime Hosts MMA!
7 May 2009
I was just getting used to watching the Elite XC fights on CBS as well as watching the WEC on Versus TV but the Elite XC league did not last long. I found out the fighters moved to Showtime under Strikeforce so I signed up for a Showtime deal from my local cable company! The first fight I found was the Shamrock vs. Diaz show that also hosted the Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos vs. Hitomi Akano fight!
To be sure the CBS Elite XC fights were kind of a let down as the competition did not seem up to other organization’s standards; still it was free so I watched. I found Gina Carano really stole the show! The fight I was waiting for was Carano vs. Cyborg but the fights fizzled on CBS. I am going to talk about women MMA fighters today and review the Cyborg vs. Akano and Shamrock vs. Diaz matches. Let watch the first video.
WEC going to PPV? No Thanks; Brown vs Faber2!
20 Apr 2009
I’ve heard rumblings about the WEC going to PPV (pay per view) with the Brown vs. Faber 2 rematch but it has been put on hold. Wow, what a almost mis-step on the WEC’s part in my opinion. I’ve seen a couple of posts on this and what I am gleaning is the WEC wants to play with the big boys. In my opinion the WEC are the big boys, the 600 pound gorilla if you will because versus TV is widely available.
I am a salty old dog that enjoys the WEC’s liberal MMA rules and of course the price (free on VS TV)! If the WEC went to PPV events, my guess is it would struggle a bit because there is already the UFC fans that are used to paying for those events. I’m not all that sure all of the free versus TV viewers would start paying. What do you think? Lets look at the up coming card and speak a little about Torres last fight.
Mike Brown vs Leonrad Garcia – WEC Action!
5 Mar 2009
It is looking like there is going to be a Uriah Faber – Mike Brown rematch after Brown destroyed Garcia in Texas. Take a look at this video from MyVideoFight.com below and the Faber vs Brown video and lets do some Monday morning quarterbacking.
Faber over Pulver in WEC!
26 Jan 2009
There have been a lot of good fights lately and I just saw Urijah Faber submit Jens Pulver in the first round on Sunday. For those of you who might not know – Faber won a decision over Pulver last summer and then went on to lose his belt to Mike Brown. Jens Pulver lost his last two fights so yesterdays fight was all the more important for both fighters.
The headliner fight was disappointing because Jamie Varner was slightly ahead in points and receive an unintentional foul by Donald Cerrone in the 5th round – grazing Varner’s temple with a knee (Varner was still on his knees). Varner was able to get Cerrone to the ground but Cerrone seemed to be more comfortable on his feet (although he took lots of face shots and was cut up). The crowd was unhappy that Varner could not continue and seemed to like Cerrone’s attitude. That will be a rematch to watch.
This is a short post tonight as I wanted to say something about the Faber – Pulver 2 fight. Here is a clip.
