Some Up and Coming MMA Fighters

One of my friends,  Joseph Scarafone sent me a video of a fighter he is helping sponsor the other day and I was amazed by this fight and his novel escape. Kyle Mc Laughlin (white trunks) had an uphill fight. Here is the video.

This guy could really cover up well! Looking at the video I could not really tell how he won. I know he was using a choke but I think he was able to use a leg lock or such. What did you see in this video?

I met a MMA fighter at a Halloween party unexpectedly. I was nursing one of several rum and cokes, planning my exit as I had a workout the next morning and I overheard some guys talking about fight training. I went over and introduced myself and met Tony “The Tiger” Velarde. He mentioned that he trained in Muy Tai and Jui Jitsu. I found his record here. According to this site, he has a 7 and 3 record. Here is a quick video of one of his fights.

Watching MMA is always interesting because you never really know how a fight is going to turn out. Many fighters are unable to close the deal and ultimately get defeated (as in the first fight). Tony Velarde has won his last three fights by knock-outs and should continue to be a local favorite.

Its amazing to see how experienced some up and coming fighters really are. I have always said that the great fighters are hidden away in dojos and gyms throughout the world without any known knowledge of them who train to train without giving any thought of competition and fame.

Just goes to show, it ain’t over till it’s over. A lot of credit to take that much punishment and keep hangin in there. It looked to me like he got the guy with a reverse arm bar or arm bar as the other guy tried to pile drive him. The injured guy kind of grabbed his arm like it was hurt as it ended. It’s hard to tell. Like to say hello to Joe Scarafone. We had a lot of good times in Todd’s dojo.

The first fight seems to be an armbar, and is well done. Nice post.

@ Marks Training – I think you are right about the hidden jewels out there. I liked your site and added a link.

@ Matt – you aren’t kidding about the ending! I paraphrased one of your comments in today’s post. Joe reads this blog regularly.
    .
@ Nathan – You are probably right – I’d stop by your blog at TDAtraining but no one is probably reading today anyway :)

@ Bob – thanks Bob… I took a gander at your site and added it as it seems to have interesting content.
